Mr. Raj - Head of Administration

Dear Parents,

Welcome

Peace - Love - Montessori

Thank you for your interest in The Montessori Children’s House of Hyde Park.

I have always been passionate about learning. This desire of continuous growth earned me a B.S. in Math from Michigan State University and an M.S. in Business Administration from the University of Houston. I am happily married to my wife of over 20 years, Jane.

Highlights from my corporate career include 7 years at Monsanto Company, where I was Director of Finance, and 13 years at Gap Inc, where I was Vice President of Global Operations.

While my corporate career was rewarding in many ways, I was leaving work not feeling fulfilled. I enjoyed promoting individuals, mentoring staff in their roles and developing a personal connection with my 100s of employees, but the actual work was not rewarding. I kept pondering Mark Twains famous quote: "The two most important days in your life are the day you were born, and the day you find out why."

My Mom has been a primary school teacher for over 40 years. After teaching at prestigious international schools for most of her career, she took a position at a public school in Houston, TX, where she taught underprivileged children. After lifting their academic scores from the absolute bottom to the top 5 national scores, she was invited to Oprah's show as well as to the White House. She repeatedly spoke about how much she enjoyed positively impacting children's lives.

My Dad was an Executive Engineer at Lucent Technologies, and after retiring, he worked as a volunteer at the same public school in Houston, TX. At the age of 70, he always spoke of how much energy the children gave him, and he loved going to work every day.

A few years ago, he died of a sudden heart attack in the hallway of the school. The school had a ceremony for Dad I flew in from San Francisco and was shocked at the size of the crowd that was attending. The police were directing traffic, several parents had flown in from their vacations and children were weeping. At the funeral, the children had assembled a band and they marched into the church playing beautiful hymns, and paraded around the church afterwards. A brief article about Dad entitled Teacher of Love was featured in Houston's major newspaper, the Houston Chronicle.

My life was changed forever!  I finally found my personal answer to Mark Twain's question.

I left the corporate world and went on to obtain my Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential and also became a FL Director of Education. I joined Montessori Children's House of Hyde Park in beautiful Tampa as the Head of Administration. It has been an absolute privilege and honor to serve MCH and its wonderful community, continuing the legacy of educators in my family. Being a part of the MCH family has made all of my professional and personal dreams come true. I cannot envision any other "job" that would be as fulfilling and rewarding each and every day. Being a part of these children's lives, and helping each of them learn, grow and become leaders and world-changers is a joy beyond belief!

There is no doubt in my mind that the Education field is the most important industry in the world. I believe that the best gift a parent can give a child is an AMI Montessori education. With our remarkable staff and you, we can keep building upon and improving our student's lives!

"The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away."

Sincerely,

Raj Thomas, Head of Administration
